Sihanoukville:

Sunny New Year's Eve

02.03.2017 - Jordan

Here we are, the 31st December! Taking example on Cambodians, we load the three scooters with our heavy bags and bodies. To the two people by vehicles, we add two big backpack and, finally, two small bags. In fact, it's pretty comfortable to be stuck in this mess! However, if we take this 'risk', it's only because we leave our little heaven, Kampot, and that we must join the bus company. We take one last detour to the city centre, in order to eat our breakfast and to jump in the mini-bus to Sihanoukville.

Being happy of our oppressing loadings on the scooters, we reiterate: we are overloaded in a van, all glued together and most importantly, really sticky. And, in fact, things would go really well, if it was without an old English male of 75 years old. He is screaming non-stop, and the 12 other passengers get angry.

Small part of his anglophone poem:

'Do not open the window, DO NOT OPEN IT, BETTER FOR YOU TO NOT OPEN IT, YOU'LL SEE IF YOU OPEN THAT WINDOW'

'Open the door, OPEN THE DOOR!',

'Do not put your knees here, YOU BOTHER ME'

'HEY, DROP ME OFF HERE!!'

And everyone thinks very strongly:

'FUCK YOUR MOUTH! WE HAVE NO CHOICE IN HERE, WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME SHIT IN THIS MINI-VAN!'

It seems that wisdom isn't for every elderly. However, once he drops off, everyone laugh and promise that we would never become like this. Let say that is part of the trip!

Sihanoukville is known for its beaches and nearby islands. This is 'THE' southern city, with the beautiful beaches full of tourists who are mostly here to drink and to party. Exactly what we are looking for! Of course, I guess it's not worth Thailand islands, but we are very happy to sleep on the sea. Because, yes, the chosen guest-house, at 'Ostres Beach', is really close to the water!

We throw all our luggages in a box, and our dead bodies in the sea. It's much warmer and transparent here that in Kep. LOVELY!

(Said like this, it looks like heaven, and really, it is the case, but only on the beach. As soon as we venture back to the countryside, there are astronomical amounts of accumulated plastic wastes in the fields. Mainly thrown by Cambodians themselves!)

With two friends that the guys (Alex, Kevin and Clément) have previously met in Myanmar, we alternate between beers, fruits, cocktails, billiards and Khmer food. With feet in the water, for sure. It's rather pleasant a new year's eve party in a sunny country! At Midnight, we enjoy a huge fireworks, fired from another beach of Sihanoukville.

Also, sometimes, we lose Clément. When he comes back, it is with a Khmer friend: they were dancing around a fire with other Cambodians. And they are happy to try to show us, how to do!

SLEEPING TIME.

01 January:

How to well start the new year, without any resolutions?

Maybe by swimming, at 9 o'clock in the morning to wake us up?

Anyway, it's probably the only thing we can do in here! Or possibly eat a breakfast on the sand and prepare our future days...

By the way, the next expected step is 'Koh ta Kiev'. It's one of the nearby islands, without running water and electricity, and with almost no-one living on it!
